Santa Claus is coming to Town!

Childrens Fair Rides and Santas Grotto

Location: Market Place, Kettering
Time: 13.00 – 16.00
Cost: Childrens Fairground rides £1.00 Santa’s Grotto 50p (proceeds go to Cransley Hospice)

A festive fairground experience comes to the Market Place a week before Christmas with a toy set, cups and saucers and train rides to entertain the whole family.
Santa will also be waiting for special visitors in his grotto situated in one of the new Market Place buildings.

Chamber appoints a new Town Crier

Kettering Chamber has appointed Horace Handley as its new town crier.

Mr Handley from Northampton said: “I’m really over the moon and am looking forward going around the town.”

As well as announcing events in and around Kettering borough, Mr Handley will also spend time training other volunteers.

Neil Griffin from Kettering Chamber of Trade said: “We are pleased to have Horace. He is well spoken of in the town crying world.”

Mr Handley, who used to be the town crier for Northampton, applied for the job after hearing about it on BBC Radio Northampton.

He held his previous role for 20 years but it ended in October due to budget cuts.

County councillor Larry Henson who took part in the selection process said: “We hope to get Horace to promote many events in the town.”

The town crier’s first official event was on Saturday 7 May 2011.

“It was just great seeing Horace in action. Many kids came over to have their pictures taken with the town crier,” said Neil Griffin.

Kettering is one of the fastest growing towns in the Country. The next stage of major improvements has now started, focusing on theHorsemarket, Market Street, Sheep Street and Northampton Road. This follows the completion of the award winning Market Place and the emergence of the new Restaurant Quarter.

Around £10 million is currently being invested in Kettering’s town centre. As a Partnership, we are committed to attracting funding from outside of the Borough and minimising the cost to local council taxpayers.

The planned improvements to Kettering town centre will help attract more shoppers and retailers to the town. The works aim to complement the rich heritage of the town and make it a distinctive and fun place to be.

The ongoing work will include work to Horsemarket, Market Place and the restaurants, Sheep Street and Northampton Road / Northfield Avenue and will make for a better shopping experience in 2011.

Northampton Rd / Northfield Ave	Likely Nov ’10 - May ’11	- Improved traffic flow - Traffic lights replaced with a new double roundabout layout

As with any project, timings are subject to change but the disruption will always be kept to a minimum. Where possible, changes will be notified at the earliest opportunity on this website.
